At Design Preowned, we prioritize the use of high-quality materials that are both sustainable and ethically sourced.
Predominantly sourced from Germany, Sweden, and Denmark, the materials we use come from reputable, certified suppliers who emphasize animal welfare. This approach aligns with our commitment to zero animal cruelty and deforestation, as we utilize materials that might otherwise go to waste.
CERTIFICATIONS
Our leather is Blue Angel certified and OEKO-TEX® certified, reflecting our dedication to environmentally friendly and safe materials. The carbon footprint of our leather is calculated at 8.7 kg CO2e per square meter, ensuring transparency in our environmental impact. Additionally, our leather is free from PFAS and phthalates and is produced according to Leather Working Group (LWG) standards.
MATERIAL QUALITY
Our canvas and leather are of the finest quality and ecologic. Leather is a raw material of hide and our canvas is made of cotton. Both are eco-friendly, ensured by our trusted partners. The foam and nails are the only materials in our pre-designed furniture that are not from raw organic material, and we work closely with recycled and longevity choices. These non-organic components make up just 2% of the chair’s total weight.
INNOVATIVE RECYCLING AND REUSE
All removed non-organic material is then recycled in waste. Design Preowned rescues materials that do not pass quality control from the already established furniture industry. Materials with minor production mistakes often don’t see the light of day before being cut and burned, a wasteful process that is cruel to our planet. We believe these materials have the potential for longevity if used correctly.
EXTENDED WOOD CYCLE
Every time a chair is broken down, the wood is then deconstructed, and parts of it can still be used for other forms of building and creativity. Here is where we feel proudest because we prolong the lifespan of a tree cut 70, 50, or 30 years ago to last as long as 100+ years in different forms and shapes.
